Tallahassee is in the panhandle of Florida and part of Leon County. The locals refer to our area as the “Big Bend,” because of our location in the state’s shape. As the capital, we are the home to many government sites, including the Florida Supreme Court and the Governor’s Mansion. In addition, we are known for our scientific research performed at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory near Florida State University. The Florida State Seminoles have many stadiums and fields for their vast sports programs. Football season is always exciting, as Doak Campbell Stadium holds over 80,000 people. Tallahassee is also home to our Tallahassee Community College Eagles and our Florida A&M University Rattlers. We have long summers and short winters. Our summers are full of brief rains and thunderstorms from the sea breeze off of the Gulf of Mexico.
